Like all jobs, start doing one thing, and then it expands. It started with the clutch master. I found a couple of drops of dark oil on the brand-new tan floor mats. Crap, the seals have failed! Like every rubber I have encountered on this car, I can no longer trust any of the rubber in this car. This is just skanky!!
For the brake master, I have little confidence in it either. So it is getting replaced, along with the seals in the calipers, the rear wheel cylinders, and, well, change to DOT5 fluid.
With the masters out of the way, oh time to deal with the DOT3 damage. Not putting pretty new masters back onto a crappy firewall.
Time to remove the paint, etc.
But the disc can only go so far. Time to pull out the scotch-brite pads and a bucket of Simply Clean/water with a case of elbow grease.
Time to start taping up the area. The cables got pulled back through the firewall
Yes, a third of the car is masked off! No clue how bad the overspray is going to be. The '3a sitting behind me also got plastic!
Time to mask the holes. Instead of playing around with the painters tape, time to use the duct tape on the inside :-P Stick to anything!!!
Time to shoot some paint. I tried to find a gloss grey, but it was too dark. Then found Tremclad gloss aluminium rust paint. The cap looked good, shot it and then... WOW!!!!!
Umm, it is shiny!!!! Okay, I can live with this 😝 The paint is thick as well, I think a total of five coats.
What's next? Pull the steering shaft, review, and refurbish if possible. Replace the front engine mount. Put the upgraded starter in since it is open.
